Ark. Corrections Officer Shot, Killed During Welfare Check

An Arkansas Department of Corrections sergeant working on a K-9 tracking team was fatally show when Pulaski County sheriff's deputies were checking on a Maumelle woman who hadn't shown up to work.
An Arkansas corrections officer was shot and killed during a welfare check on a woman late Sunday.
Pulaski County sheriff's deputies were checking on a woman at her home in Maumelle after she hadn't showed up at work, KATV-TV reports. Shots were fired when they arrived at the scene, and a SWAT unit was deployed.
Once the team was able to enter the house, they found it was empty. Arkansas Department of Corrections officers who were part of a K-9 tracking team were then called in.
The K-9 team found the suspect under a trailer, and more shot were fired. A corrections sergeant was struck by the gunfire, and he was taken to the hospital, where he died.
The identity of the sergeant has not been released by authorities.
The shooter has not been apprehended, and a BOLO alert has been issued for a person of interest in the shooting. The woman who was the subject of the welfare check was found, and she was safe.
